Tetrahedron Fire Pit and Benches - Astral Harvest Installation
This was an installation done for the music festival Astral Harvest, held just outside of Driftpile, Alberta. I've attended Astral Harvest 4 times and wanted to give back to the community. I proposed to construct a metal tetrahedron out of 3/16" steel and surround it with 3 benches that can seat 4 people comfortably. My application was granted and this is what I built.
There are 5 platonic solids. Each can be made with identical regular polygons, and with the same number of faces meeting at every corner. These 5 regular solids were thought to represent the five basic elements of the world; earth, air, fire, water and the universe. The top of this structure is the tetrahedron and it represents the element of fire.
