Arts vs Crafts was born the basement of a friends house in Red Deer, AB after discovering a love of creating graphic T's. It started with simple cut out stencils and rolling the ink onto blank white t-shirts. This quickly developed into silk screening shirts after this same friend got a silk screening kit for Christmas. Before long we were making our own silk screens, making trips to Calgary to buy ink and setting the ink in his mom's kitchen oven. The team grew with the addition of a local skate shop manager and we began selling shirts to the snow and skate community. Our brand reached the snow and skate community in about 15-20 skate/snow shops from BC to Saskatchewan. We eventually outgrew the basement and outsourced our silkscreening to professionals, this allowed me to focus on creating the designs and catalogs. One season our team came up with the idea to make our own custom facewarmers and we began manufacturing them after purchasing an industrial grade sewing machine. We did everything from sourcing the fabric, cutting the fabric, sewings in tags and adding the fleece lining. During my time with Arts vs Crafts I tackled everything from designing graphics, sewing facewarmers, building silk screens, helping run our trade show booth and fold t-shirts like a boss. I learned what it meant to have relationships with retailers and how to grow a community around our brand. This time was invaluable and I loved every minute of it.
